All About Automotive Lighting: What Kinds Does a Vehicle Have?
More commonly, headlights, daytime running lights (DRLs, for short), and taillights. Less commonly, fog lights and specialty lights.
Headlights work as high-beams, low-beams, and flashers/hazard lights. High beams are used when it's extremely dark, as they'll be brighter and shine wider. Low beams are used during most everyday driving under normal conditions. Hazard lights warn drivers of dangerous situations nearby or tell them that you're in distress and you need help.
DRLs and tail lighting, however, give drivers a better view of where and how far away you are. Other types of lighting include signal lights or blinkers, which tell others of a turn or lane change; brake lights, which indicate a slowdown or stop; fog lights, which shine low and brightly in bad weather; and specialty lights, which accent exterior accessories.
Any of these can be one of three different kinds of bulbs. One is halogen; it's the commonest, and you'll find it in many smaller cars. Another is Xenon or high-intensity discharge; you can find it in many sports cars. The last is LED; it's energy-efficient and low heat, and you'll find it in many newer models.
What Lights Does Your Mitsubishi Use?
That depends on what body style it is. If you're unsure of the answer, consult your owner's manual; it'll have more information.
When to Change a Car Light Bulb
This depends on the bulb's type and certain signs of problems. Replace a Xenon bulb, for example, when it starts dimming, about every three years. Replace an LED bulb if it goes out or its electronics fail. Replace a halogen bulb every two years or so. Just be sure that, when you go to buy new ones, they're the genuine article.
Why Buy Genuine OEM?
What Mitsubishi manufactures is guaranteed compatible with your car or SUV model. That's not always the case with lighting on the aftermarket.
